Description
Vintage West German Pottery Mid-Century Modern Geometric Ceramic Vase (Form 289/28)
An exceptional mid-century modern West German art pottery vase exhibiting striking Space Age / Pop Art geometric design. Formed with an elegant swelling baluster body tapering into an outward-flared trumpet neck and footed base, the vase features an intricate sgraffito/relief network of dark, textured volcanic lava ridges. Within this fractured geometric grid, vibrant cherry-red high-gloss enameled triangular windows pop dramatically against a smooth, satin matte white-to-light-grey ground.
The interior rim is glazed in matching deep gloss red, seamlessly connecting the exterior accents. The unglazed foot rim exposes a fine buff earthenware clay body, clearly debossed on the recessed base with the original German form and size mold number 289/28 (indicating design shape 289 at 28 cm / 11 inches in height).
