Description
This is a vintage 1905 hardcover edition of The Clansman An Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan written by Thomas Dixon Jr and published by Grosset & Dunlap. A central artifact of early 20th-century American history this novel served as the primary inspiration for D.W. Griffithโs landmark silent film The Birth of a Nation. This volume is enhanced with original internal illustrations by Arthur I. Keller which depict scenes from the narrative. The book features its original deep red cloth-covered boards with gilded lettering on the front cover and spine. The interior includes a vintage handwritten Christmas gift inscription on the front flyleaf. While the binding remains intact and the boards show only minor shelf wear the pages have developed a natural aged patina and light tanning consistent with a book of this age. It stands as a profound example of the “Lost Cause” literary tradition and a significant object for collectors of historical Americana or cinematic history.
