Description
This rare silver plate water pitcher was manufactured by the prestigious French silversmith Christofle for official use in Iraq during the Saddam Hussein era. The piece features a prominent engraved crest of the Eagle of Saladin containing three vertical stars on the central shield which was the symbol used by the Ba’ath Party. Below the eagle is a banner with Arabic script. The pitcher itself is designed with a fluted lower body and a decorative handle featuring acanthus leaf engravings and a scroll thumb rest. The base is stamped with authentic Christofle France hallmarks including the scale symbol and the OC chess piece mark. While the exterior maintains a high polish there is visible surface crazing and the interior shows heavy patina from historical use.
