Description
Detailed Description An extremely rare set of five 5 full-size dinner or luncheon knives with authenticated provenance from the palaces or official residences of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. These knives were manufactured by the prestigious Italian luxury firm Sambonet and are clearly marked “Sambonet Italy” on the handle. The handles are hollow-cast in a classic decorative pattern suggesting either silverplate or another fine metal alloy. Each knife is custom-crested with the Iraqi Coat of Arms (Eagle of Saladin). Beneath the Eagle is a distinctive double-wave symbol suggesting these knives were part of a service commissioned for the Iraqi Navy a much rarer sector than the general Presidential Palace dining service. The rarity of military-commissioned flatware from this era especially with a unique naval crest significantly increases their collectible status. The five knives are in used condition consistent with their military and historical background showing scratching and wear on the blades and handles. This set is a superb addition for serious collectors of militaria political history or custom luxury flatware.
