Minnie Vigil, a Native American potter from Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, died on January 21, 2023 at the age of 91. She was born in 1931 and began making pottery in 1955. She specialized in polychrome wares, some slipped in red clay and stone polished and some slipped in matte tan clay and not polished. She typically signed her pieces as Minnie, Santa Clara.

Minnie was born into a family of potters. Her mother, Petra Montoya Gutierrez, was a well-known potter and taught her daughters the traditional way of making pottery. Minnie's sisters, Gloria Goldenrod Garcia, Thelma Talachy, and Lois Gutierrez de la Cruz, are also potters.

Minnie's pottery was well-known for its fine craftsmanship and intricate designs. She won numerous awards for her work, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA) in 2011. Her pottery is included in the collections of many museums, including the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.

Minnie's death is a loss to the Native American pottery community. She was a talented artist and an important cultural figure. Her work will continue to be enjoyed by people all over the world for generations to come. Deceased January 2023
