Brief History of Saddam Hussein: Saddam Hussein (April 28, 1937 – December 30, 2006) was the fifth President of Iraq, serving in this capacity from July 16, 1979, until April 9, 2003. A leading member of the revolutionary Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, he played a key role in the 1968 coup that brought the party to power in Iraq.
Under Saddam's leadership, Iraq saw rapid infrastructural and economic growth, but this came at the cost of significant human rights abuses, including the use of chemical weapons on his own people. His regime was marked by a series of conflicts, including the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s and the Gulf War in 1991.
In 2003, a U.S.-led coalition invaded Iraq, leading to Saddam's ouster. After a period in hiding, he was captured by U.S. forces in December 2003. Following a trial in Iraq, he was found guilty of crimes against humanity and was executed by hanging on December 30, 2006.
This particular newspaper edition captures the global reaction to Saddam's execution, marking the end of an era in Middle Eastern politics and global geopolitics
